Freedom
JOHN 8:34-36: “I tell you the truth, everyone who sins is a slave to sin. Now a slave has no permanent place in the family, but a son belongs to it forever. So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.” Freedom in Christ is not measured by the world’s standards. The truth is, when we become believers in Christ, our will is surrendered to God’s will and we are no longer confined to the limitations of our finite minds. We are now liberated in the vast arena of God’s perfect supernatural will.
We are no longer bound by erroneous “humanistic freedom” which leads to deviant behaviour and inevitably ends in destruction. Freedom in Christ allows for a privileged relationship with our heavenly Father, combining both an intimate and reverent awareness of the sovereignty and awesome glory of God.
We are free to love the unlovely and free to forgive the unrepentant. When confronted by injustice, criticism and prejudice, we are free to remain completely liberated in the abiding joy of the Lord. In the midst of chaos and uncertainty we have the freedom of a calm, undaunted spirit knowing that God is with us. We are free to believe the truth of God’s word when everything seems to contradict.
We are liberated in knowing that when we are troubled we are not in distress; when perplexed, not in despair; when persecuted, not forsaken and when cast down, not destroyed. We are free to remain forever liberated sons of God!
Eternal Father, we thank You for the privilege of being adopted as sons in the family of Christ; because we are sons the Spirit of Christ dwells in our hearts giving us true freedom, so that as a nation we are no longer slaves to sin but are free to serve You in spirit and in truth.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
