Baugh, Richardson among runs
The first trial match to select Jamaica’s squad for the upcoming four-day regional tournament in January of next year ended in a draw as Tamar Lambert’s XI were dismissed in their second innings for 241.
In their first innings, Lambert’s XI had made a huge 462 before David Bernard Jr’s XI replied strongly with 432 in their first knock.
Lambert’s XI started yesterday’s fourth and final day on 20 for one, but lost wickets regularly to be reduced to a precarious 137 for eight.
Carlton Baugh Jr then made a resolute 84 inclusive of 12 fours and two sixes and Andrew Richardson blasted seven sixes in his 59 to share in a 102-run stand for the ninth wicket.
Baugh was dismissed trying to hit part-time spinner Brenton Parchment for six over mid-wicket, while Richardson was out two runs later after being lured from his crease by leg-spinner Odean Brown.
Before that, Danza Hyatt made 34 before being bowled by medium-pacer Shawn Findlay, while Bernard Jr dismissed both Xavier Marshall and Donavan Sinclair for five and six respectively.
Horace Miller went leg before wicket to Brown and first-innings centurion Lambert was dismissed for nought by Findlay.
Fast bowler Jason Dawes bowled all-rounder Andre Russell for 29 to capture his second wicket of the innings, while Bevan Brown got the wicket of Nikita Miller.
The second trial match will be played at the Melbourne Cricket Club on Saturday.
