George’s host H’View in DPL feature
Digicel Premier League (DPL) leaders St George’s SC host third-placed and former champions Harbour View at Lynch Park in the feature game on today’s midweek schedule.
Not a lot of goals are expected as the battle at Lynch Park pits the teams with the two best defensive records in the DPL. Their last two meeting on September 16 ended in a 1-1 draw in East Kingston with Harbour View’s Jermaine Edwards and Damion Harwood of St George’s the scorers.
However, Lynch Park remains a fortress for the hosts who, along with Boys’ Town, are the only clubs yet to lose at home, having drawn only twice in six games.
Contrastingly, the ‘Stars of the East’ possess the best away record, claiming 16 points from a maximum of 18.
A good punter would go for a draw, but with one point separating the top-three teams, defending champions Tivoli Gardens are eyeing a return to the summit.
The West Kingston club, in second place on 25 points, travel to UWI to tackle an August Town side which is second from the bottom in the standings, but won its last two home games.
Certainly, August Town would be buoyed by those results and fancy their chances against Lenny Hyde’s team which is still fighting to overcome the sudden passing of inspirational captain Oraine Simpson.
Since Simpson’s death, Hyde’s boys have drawn their last three contests and despite boasting the best attacking record, their goalscoring prowess on the road has been quite modest.
A resurgent Waterhouse entertain Village United at Drewsland and are keen on avenging their 0-3 whipping at the hands of the Trelawny club.
Geoffrey Maxwell has managed to turn things around during the latter stages of round one, with veteran players Kevin Lamey and Irvino English sharing 10 goals between them.
And with Village still struggling to find their feet, a big win for Waterhouse is highly anticipated later this evening.
The sudden slide of 2007/2008 champions Portmore United is expected to come to a halt against basement club Humble Lions in a late game at Ferdie Neita Park.
Linval Dixon’s boys have picked up a mere five points from a possible 18, a dismal record bettered only by tonight’s opponents, who have collected only two points from six matches.
Boys Town and Rivoli United failed to produce any goals in the last encounter, but the Red Brigade have won three on the trot at home and seem intent to extend that streak.
On the road, Rivoli are just abysmal, but if any person in their camp who can turn this around it’s Devon Hodges. The prolific marksman is the leading scorer with eight goals to his credit and Boys’ Town coach Andrew Price will ensure Hodges receives special attention.
Sporting Central have one of the worst home records which seem unlikely to improve against an Arnett Gardens team which holds the fourth-best away record.
But anything except defeat will be viewed by Sporting coach Donovan Duckie as a positive step.
