We need someone like Reneto
Dear Editor,
This is in response to your November 22 news item ,”No go for Reneto”. It was reported that Reneto Adams will not be considered for the position of commissioner because he does not meet the academic qualifications.
In addition, many believe that his aggressive leadership style is not in the best interest of the country.
However true these statements are, we are at a point where we need someone like Adams at the helm of our police force to challenge the crime epidemic that has engulfed the nation. The wanton murders of innocent civilians and financial corruption that is a daily occurrence must be firmly addressed.
Interestingly, if Mr Adams became police commissioner; it would seem more like an elected rather than an appointed position, because the will of the people would have put him in office.
There is no doubt that he would also have received the cooperation and support of the people. During the Second World War Winston Churchill became prime minister of England because he was the best man for the job during the war years. He was a great orator with extensive military background who motivated his people and the Allied forces. Secure in their victory, the British people expressed how they felt about Churchill’s ability to lead them during peace time by voting him out of office after the war.
Timing is of the essence, especially concerning matters of national importance, and there are few concerns that are more important than the high crime rate. If we really want to look at the cold, hard facts, the only groups of people who would not benefit if Mr Adams is appointed police commissioner are criminals and corrupt politicians. They would be sweating in their boots because they know Mr Adams would not hesitate for a moment to bring them to justice.
