One Touch Charity launched
Dancehall newcomer Raine Seville and her friend Sophronia McKenzie have launched a charity.
“We formed One Touch Charity with the aim to touch the lives of people, specifically kids who are less fortunate, as we believe no matter their circumstances, they are the future,” Seville told TEENage.
McKenzie, president of the charity, said, the idea of One Touch came about in December 2008, when Seville and herself were buying gifts for a christmas toy drive. The feeling that they had was so overwhelming, that they decided to form their own charity. So in April One Touch Charity was incorporated.
One Touch Charity intends to reach out to various children’s homes and having workshops, parties, and concerts. Their target market are children, TEENagers, and young adults, and at each event they enforce our slogan which is ‘Touch A Life Today’.
They have two events remaining this year: ‘Just a Touch’ Drive at the Maxfield Park Children’s Home and Santa’s Wish List at the Church of God’s Girls Home, both to be held on December 19, 2009.
‘Just a Touch’ is more of a donation which would include food and clothings and Santa’s Wish List will be a concert from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm.
With that in mind, Seville has rounded up a few local public figures to support the One Touch Charity movement, such as Rebecca Silvera, Miss Jamaica World 2008 runner-up; DJ Nicco, disc joc from FAME-FM, Fiction and Margaritaville; Ishawna, singer; Luton Shelton, Jamaican national footballer, as well as selectors Chromatic and Bunco, to name a few.
