Final five selected for Tastee Talent Contest showdown
MONTEGO BAY, ST James – Last Saturday night’s semi-finals held here at the Tastee outlet on Barnett Street, saw two budding gospel artistes, Camille King and Damion Kaisley, among the five contestants chosen at from a field of 24 to advance to the finals of the Tastee Talent Contest scheduled for December 5.
The full slate is completed by singer Jermaine Bryan and deejays Ray Jarrett and Anthony Lewis.
The five will join five other contestants who booked their places a week earlier in the semi-final leg held in Kingston. The 10 will be vying for the top prize of $1 million cash plus a recording contract with Penthouse Records.
In the meantime, Kingstonian deejay Jarrett, who thrilled the audience last Saturday with his original piece titled Inspector, which addresses, among other ills, the improper disposal of solid waste, walked away from the jam-packed venue $25,000 richer. He was voted best-dressed male contestant for which he received $10,000; and grabbed $15,000 for best original lyrics.
Okima Lindsay was adjudged the best-dressed female for which she received a cash prize of $10,000.
Meanwhile, King, a native of St Catherine, the lone female among the five selected, received a standing ovation from the audience as she passionately sang Still I Rise.
Montegonian crooner, Damion Kaisley, who was the last act to perform, enjoyed much home support and had the crowd in a frenzy as he belted out Close to You.
The youngest contestant 17-year-old Jermaine Bryan scored with the audience with his rendition of Romain Virgo’s Rain is Falling, while Clarendonian deejay scored with his original song, entitled Cashy.
Meanwhile, there was consensus among the three judges Amina Blackwood-Meeks, Cezar and Nathalie Morris that Saturday’s semi-final leg in Montego Bay, “was very close to call” as the show was highlighted by excellent performances.
