Bamboo surge in Captain’s Bakery Super League
BAMBOO, Hanover – Bamboo FC of Hanover have taken over sole leadership of the Captain’s Bakery and Grill Western Confederation Super League after beating promoted Prosper 3-1 for their third straight victory.
With Seba United and Reno playing out a 0-0 draw in the second game of a double header at Jarrett Park, Bamboo who were awarded full points from their unplayed second- round game against Exidos, lead with nine points, two more than three teams that are tied for second on seven points.
Andre Atkinson gave Bamboo the lead after 16 minutes, Dwayne Jump added a second in the 27th minute, while an own goal made the score 3-0 at half-time.
Oshane Kerr scored in the 67th minute for Prosper who have lost all three games played so far.
Meanwhile, defending champions Wadadah are still to win their first game as they were beaten 3-1 by promoted Exidos in the first game at Jarrett Park and have sunk to 11th place in the 12-team league.
Sheldon Bryant scored twice for the Trelawny team who were scoring their first win in the Super League.
Oshane Hunter gave Exidos the lead after 25 minutes, but former national striker Devon Ricketts scored in his second straight game to equalise for Wadadah in the 38th minute.
Bryant then took over in the second half, scoring twice in an 11-minute span – in the 68th and 79th to give his team
the win.
Former champions Granville moved past Seba and Reno on goal difference into second place after edging winless Violet Kickers 2-1 at the Sam Sharpe Teachers College grounds.
Garth Johnson scored his fourth goal in three games to give Granville the lead after 19 minutes, while Odean Snow added a second in the 52nd minute, two minutes before Damion Reid pulled one back for Violet Kickers.
Eshane Wilkins scored a first-half hat-trick to lead Catherine Hall, last season’s St James Senior League champions, to their first win this season, beating Mt Pelier 4-2 at Mt Pelier.
Wilkins, a former Wadadah and Mt Salem representative, scored in the 16th, 22nd and 44th minutes, while Andrew Barrett got the other in the 90th minute.
Goals from Daren Dowie and Chester Chambers had kept the home team in the game.
