Plucky August Town chisel tie with Rivoli
Rivoli United FC were left to rue missed chances as they drew 1-1 with second-from-bottom August Town FC in yesterday’s Digicel Premier League match at the Spanish Town Prison Oval.
Rivoli now have 14 points, while August Town moved up to 10 .
Both teams attempted to play possession football in the first half though Rivoli may have had a slight edge with national player Devon Hodges linking well with strike partner Kirk Ramsay. The two, however, were kept in check by the tough- tackling Ajuran Brown of August Town.
August Town’s Calvert Fitzgerald then made double changes at the resumption and was immediately made to look like a genius when Aphas Bernard scored three minutes after being on the field to silence the Rivoli faithful.
Rivoli then pressed forward and were rewarded in the 65th minute when Hodges powered home a penalty after August Town’s Raymond Williamson was adjudged to have fouled Fidel Anderson in the box by referee Raymond Bogle. Anderson immediately turned from hero to villain when he made a wild tackle to receive marching orders after a second bookable offence in the 66th minute.
One minute later, balance was restored when Williamson also received a second yellow card, to be sent off much to the delight of the home support.
Ramsay then got easy opportunities to give his team all three points late in the game but his finishing was found wanting.
