Take Miss Ruth in Overnight Allowance
Ruth Hussey’s three-year-old filly, Miss Ruth, a brilliant two-year-old heroine who failed to maintain her winning form in the native-bred three-year-old Classics and remains winless since the Jamaica Two-Year-Old Stakes, is presented an opportunity to open her winning account when she goes up against lesser talents in a $715,000 Overnight Allowance race, three-year-olds and upward over 1,000 metres straight at Caymanas Park today. First post is 12:15 pm.
On a 10-race card with three trophies highlighted by the $630,000 Impulse Energy Mile, Miss Ruth, who has not run since her unplaced effort in the Jamaica Oaks in April, will race against NW1 Overnight Allowance lifetime rivals in a nine-horse field.
It is her first run Overnight Allowance company, but it is a distance that she will welcome having opened her winning account the first time of asking over the straight course and clocked a mild 35-seconds flat for 600 metres.
A bay daughter of Western Classic, Miss Ruth is conditioned by Percy Hussey. She has pleased at exercise, clocking a swift 59 flat over over 1,000 metres straight last Friday to close off her on-track preparations and should have little problem putting the field away with jockey Shane Ellis, who rode her in her first three wins getting from trainer Hussey.
Lightly-raced galloper Queen Nerissa looks ready to return to winning form in today’s Impulse Mile Restricted Allowance V for native-bred four-year-olds and upward (NW2).
The Stanford A Champegnie-trained bay mare has raced only 10 times for a win and four minors and looks nicely placed in this rated race over 1,600 metres.
There is little doubt the daughter of America’s Pal out of Bay War (Mr Goldust) needs ground such as this to see her at her best. After placing in four of her first five races there was a lull. However in her last two races she looked ready to go on to better things by opening her winning account over 1,400 metres. She then came off her maiden win and tackle 1,000 metres straight to be prominent throughout before came running on to finished 2 1⁄2 second to the lighter weighted Rushelle.
His main danger could be fellow four-year-old gelding Latent Power, who like Queen Nerissa also finished second over 1,400 metres in a similar $400,000 optional claiming race on November 4. Similarly bred to get the distance the son of Hail Orphan has already won over 1,500 metres and with only another 100 metres to travel could very well shed his none winners of two tag.
Ansley Dancel the 4.0kg claiming apprentice who was aboard on last will again ride for trainer Tyrone Prince who is also a part owner.
The $500,000 Champion Betting/CTL Claiming Series #2 Race #5 over 1,000 metres straight for three-year-olds and upward in the claiming spread $250,000 – $210,000 who have started for a tag of $220,000 or less since July 7 and the $492,000 Alty McKenzie Memorial Cup over 1,600 metres for $350,000 – $300,000 claimers three-year-olds and upward are the other principal trophies on the programme.
