Windward Rd, John Mills in netball clash
WINDWARD Road and John Mills for the second consecutive year will square off for the INSPORTS Kingston and St Andrew Junior High Schoolgirls Junior and Senior League titles this afternoon at the Leila Robinson Courts, starting at 1:00.
Last year, both schools shared the spoils, with Windward Road toppling John Mills for the Senior League title and the latter retaining the Junior League crown.
Defending Junior League champions John Mills secured their place in the final with a 15-6 win over Mico Practising, while Windward Road beat Louise Bennett-Coverly 9-6 in the semi-finals on Tuesday.
Both teams booked their places in the Senior final with John Mills defeating Louise Bennett-Coverly, 30-10, and Windward Road topping their semi-final, 15-15.
Coach of Windward Road, Stafford Alexander said: “I am looking forward for two competitive finals. John Mills is a very good team and I have seen them play. They have been outscoring their opponents, especially in the Senior League, where they scored over 50 goals.”
Ransford Spaulding, coach of John Mills, said he expects a win, but it should be an even game for the Junior League crown.
“My Seniors are by far a cut above the other teams as we have five girls whose executing of passes and footwork is very good,” Spaulding said.
According to the John Mills coach, the team is playing as a unit and this should do the trick today, despite the expected challenge from Windward Road.
The third- and fourth-place play-offs in the Junior and Senior Leagues, respectively, between Mico Practising and Louise Bennett-Coverly, are scheduled to begin at 12 noon, to be followed by the finals.
