Applications invited for Japan fellowship programme
THE United Nations Division for Ocean Affairs and the Law of the Sea (DOALOS) is inviting applications for the Nippon Foundation of Japan Fellowship Programme 2010-2011 session. The application deadline is August 15, 2009 and successful candidates will be expected to begin their placements in early 2010.
The Nippon Foundation of Japan Fellowship Programme was established in 2004 to provide opportunities for advanced education and training in the field of ocean affairs and the law of the sea and related disciplines to government officials and other mid-level professional from developing coastal states.
Successful fellowship candidates will undertake their research and studies in two phases over a period of nine months: the first, lasting six months, with a participating academic host institution; and the second, lasting three months, with DOALOS or an appropriate participating host institution. Upon completion of the programme, fellows are expected to return to their home countries to contribute their experience for the effective implementation of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea and related instruments and programmes.
Additional information – including the application package, detailed application instructions, and a list of participating host institutions – is available at the fellowship website: www.un.org/depts/los/nippon or by contacting the programme advisor:
