I-KOOL Productions presents Rock Steady ’08’
I-KOOL Productions, a group music enthusiasts who feel the second city needs an expanded and diversified entertainment package, will premier ‘Rock Steady by the Sea’ next Sunday, January 27, at the Memorabilia Bar and Grill in Rose Hall.
The production, which will thereafter be staged on the last Sunday of every month will see established oldies acts as well as international R&B legends coming to Montego Bay.
Luther Irving, one of Rock Steady’s chief promoters, says the series is especially geared at professionals, returning residents, visitors to the island and all lovers of oldies music.
A special feature of the event is that it will begin at 5:00 pm and end at about 10:00 pm. This, Irving said, would give people a chance to come out early, enjoy themselves and return home in time to energise for work the next day.
The premier will bring Ernie Smith, Ken Boothe, and local cabaret act, Sharon Coke, together for an evening of unforgettable music. They will be backed by Montego Bay natives the Sound Energy Band and emcee, Jackie Norman.
Former members of the Skatalites, who now perform as the Soul Shack group, including drummer Lloyd Knibbs, will also make a guest appearance at Sunday’s inaugural event.
As the series progresses, plans are also in place to introduce a boat ride along the coast to accommodate early arrivals, as the venue will be accessible as early as 1:00 pm.
