Most wanted man cut down
One of the men on the police list of Jamaica’s 12 most wanted criminals was cut down by a joint police/military patrol in St James yesterday afternoon.
Last night, the police confirmed that Gerald ‘Rado’ Taylor was shot dead in Rosemount Gardens in what the cops said was a firefight with the authorities.
According to the police, the patrol went to a building in Rosemount Gardens, one of the areas under curfew since Friday afternoon, when they were fired on by gunmen.
The security team returned the fire and after the exchange Taylor was found with gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the Cornwall Regional Hospital.
The police also said that three other men wanted by the St James police were captured and three firearms, including an M-16 assault rifle, were recovered during the operation.
It was not immediately clear last night whether the $1-million bounty placed on Taylor’s head contributed to the police and soldiers going to the building where he was shot dead yesterday.
On the most wanted list published in newspapers on December 2, Taylor, who police say was linked to the Stone Crusher Gang, was described as being between 26 and 28 years old, 5 feet 9 inches tall, slim, of light complexion and was said to be bleaching his skin.
He was said to have frequented Glendevon, Norwood, John’s Hall, Flankers and Salt Spring, tough communities in St James.
The police are offering a $1-million reward for information leading to the capture of each of the other 11 men on the most wanted list.
Last night, the police said the curfew in the troubled St James communities would be extended until this afternoon.
