Two die in fiery Little London crash
LITTLE LONDON, Westmoreland – Theo Chambers Jnr – the 26-year-old son of Hanover Chamber of Commerce president, Theo Chambers – and Christopher Clarke, also 26, self-employed, died in a fiery crash on the Little London main road Thursday night.
Police said both were trapped in their Hyundai motor car, which burst into flames and overturned when it collided with another vehicle about 10:30.
The driver of the other vehicle, Neil MacIntosh, a resident of Delveland, Westmoreland, received multiple injuries in the crash and was taken to the Savanna-la-Mar Public Hospital where he was treated.
The police reported that the Hyundai motor car, owned by Hemisphere Car Rental and driven by Chambers, was speeding along the Little London main road when it swerved to avoid a car that was in the process of turning.
The driver, the police said, reportedly lost control of the vehicle and crashed into the Toyota Corolla motor car, driven by MacIntosh, and which was travelling in the opposite direction.
The Hyundai motor car then careened off the road into a nearby yard, rammed into an incomplete board structure, overturned and burst into flames, the police said. Chambers and Clarke, who were trapped inside the vehicle, perished in the blaze.
Yesterday, Theo Chambers Snr, said he had witnessed people trying to rescue the accident victims but was unaware that one was his son.
“Yesterday (Thursday) I was on my way with my wife and another friend from Kingston and upon reaching Little London we heard the biggest bang. We knew it was a major car accident. When we came out of the car and rushed out there people were trying to get these two young men out of the car but the car burst open in flame and engulfed it. We saw the two of them burned to death with one leg outside the car,” Chambers said.
He added: “On my way home to Lucea I got a phone call informing me that the persons I just saw burnt that one of them was my son. Based on the IDs and the clothing I recognised the charred body was my son.”
