JCDC hosts art exhibition at MoBay Civic Centre

Award-winning paintings, sculptures, ceramics and other works of art from the National Visual Arts Competition 2007, are now on display at the Montego Bay Civic Centre.
The exhibition, a collaborative effort of the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC) and the National Gallery of Jamaica (NGJ), was launched on October 18 and will run through to November 16.
The public is invited, free of cost, to see the winning gold, silver and bronze pieces on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm, and Fridays 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.
Some of the works on display, including photographs, are for sale and range from $8,000 to $800,000. This historic collaboration is a combination of the existing JCDC Visual Arts Competition, and the NGJ National Exhibitions.
The exhibit features seven bronze and seven silver pieces in the 15 to 18 age group; nine silver pieces in the 12 to 14 age group; seven silver and 12 bronze pieces in the 11 and under age group, and the gold medal-winning pieces – My Old Shoe by Deanna Sanderson in the 11 and under group in the works on paper category, and The Potty by Monique Smith in the 12 to 14 age group.
Other youth gold medal pieces include Laura Ann Fung’s Sophistication in the 11 and under age group, and Accompong Terriak, a painting by Sheridon R Wright in the 15 to 18 age group.
The adult category includes the gold medal-winning Windows, photography by Shanti Persaud and Michael Parchment’s The Ark of the Covenant in the sculpture/assemblage category, seven silver pieces and 16 bronze pieces.
