Injured firefighters released from hospital
MONTEGO BAY, St James – The five firefighters who were hospitalised when the fire truck in which they were travelling overturned along the Howard Cooke Boulevard on Sunday night were released from hospital yesterday.
The firefighters were returning to the Barnett Street Fire Station after refueling at a nearby service station, when the unit reportedly developed a skid and overturned.
One of the fire fighters, Corporal Ryon Gordon, sustained a fractured leg, while the others suffered minor injuries, according to Acting Deputy Superin-tendent Lloyd Scott.
Meanwhile, Scott said that the damaged truck has left the Barnett Street Fire Department without a functioning unit.
He said, however, that a replacement could be found as early as today as a crew was working feverishly to repair another unit.
In the meantime, Scott said the nearby Freeport Fire Station and the Ironshore Department would respond to calls made to the Barnett Street station.
