Police probing double murder
PITFOUR, St James – Police were last night still searching for clues to crack a double murder case involving a pregnant teen and her common-law husband who were brutally murdered by gunmen in Pitfour, St James on Saturday evening.
According to police reports, 19-year-old Natalie Scott, who was seven months pregnant, and her boyfriend Renford Perkins, 40, were at home in a section of the community known as Poincianna Capture Land, when gunmen invaded their one-bedroom house and shot them to dead.
Investigators are theorising that their deaths might have resulted from a long-standing feud between rival gangs from Fuller in Granville – where Scott previously lived -and Browns Lane in Pitfour.
According to the police, the gangs are comprised of rival families – the Daleys, Lynchs and Shaws, who have been at war for decades. The police say they are now seeking five suspects from the Granville community, who they believe can assist them in their investigations.
“Dem couldn’t even wait till she have her baby,” Scott’s grief-stricken mother Jennifer Robinson, 45, cried yesterday outside the Granville police station.
Robinson, who had been anticipating the birth of her eighth grandchild, said her daughter had just moved to Pitfour. In addition, she noted that, as far as she knew, her son-in-law was a “quiet man who was not mixed up in wrongdoing”. He was a carpenter, she said.
“You expect them [children] fi go, but not like this,” Robinson cried. Robinson’s daughters Kamieka and Sophia Scott – two of her 12 remaining children – tried unsuccessfully to console her.
Kamieka, 20, recalled that her murdered sister had been very close to her family, who resided in Tucker and had last visited them on Friday. “A Friday a di last wi see her,” she said.
Sophia, 22, recalled that sister her had appeared very happy, and had been busy preparing for the birth of her son – her first child.
“She couldn’t wait fi him born,” Sophia told the Observer.
“She tell mi Friday seh she was going to buy some baby clothes on Monday,” Sophia, added with tears streaming down her face.
The Granville Police, who are said to be investigating the double murder, told the Observer that neighbours of the couple reported hearing gunshots at about 7:00 pm on Saturday, while they were responding to another report of shooting in the area.
On responding to the reports, the residents found Perkins lying on his bed with gunshot wounds to the face and head. They found the pregnant Scott huddled under the bed, with gunshot wounds to her upper body.
The residents said there were no signs of forced entry, and the bedroom did not appear to have been ransacked.
St James has recorded more than 120 murders since the beginning of the year. There have been several vicious murders in Norwood, Glendevon, Salt Spring and Flankers.
