Sandals Royal Caribbean takes excellence award
Sandals Royal Caribbean is the 2006 recipient of the Bureau of Standards National Quality Award (NQA) for excellence in the service industry following an extensive audit of the resort.
The award was presented to the resort at a dinner held at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel on October 12.
Sandals Royal Caribbean outclassed several local companies, including last year’s winner, Round Hill Villas, to claim this coveted accolade. In addition to taking the top award, Sandals Royal Caribbean also received the sectional prize for Excellence in Organisational Focus.
Sandals Grande Ocho Rios walked away with the Excellence in Business Results Focus Award in the Service Category, which was one of 10 awards vied for by companies nominated by the Bureau.
“Our high standards and staff-based initiatives have helped to make us the world’s best year after year, and it’s with pride and joy that we accept these awards,” said Sandals/Beaches resorts chairman Gordon ‘Butch’ Stewart. “When our own country provides awards like these, it makes it all the sweeter to accept.”
An elated general manager of Sandals Royal Caribbean, Jeremy Mutton, in his response, noted that to be elected the winner of the National Quality Awards is no small feat and is testimony to the motivation, tenacity and vision of his team.
“It is the commitment and collective efforts of our 380-team members that have enabled us to personify excellence,” he said. “We are very excited as this speaks to our mission of providing the highest quality service to our customers.”
The Bureau of Standards NQA recognises and rewards Jamaican manufacturing and service companies that demonstrate excellent quality profiles in both the production of goods and the provision of services.
The award programme seeks to promote the international competitiveness of Jamaica’s products and services, and creates a national medium for business excellence.
The criteria on which the assessments were made include organisational focus, customer focus, human resource focus, process management and business results.
