Correction – A J Nicholson and Trafigura
Our editorial on Thursday, which raised attorney-general and minister of justice A J Nicholson’s apology to the country in the Trafigura affair, incorrectly asked why he did so if there was any truth to the government’s claim that nothing wrong was done.
Mr Nicholson did in fact state his reason for apologising, saying that he did so because he failed, before speaking, to obtain full confirmation from Trafigura on the nature of the money sent to the PNP.
Mr Nicholson said he made the statement at an October 4 press conference based on the information available to him at that time.
We regret the error.
