Petrol tanker drivers on strike
PETROL stations could run out of supplies today if petroleum tanker drivers, who went on strike yesterday, remain off the job today.
The tanker drivers withdrew their services to protest against the removal of two of their colleagues by the petroleum marketing companies for which they delivered gasoline.
A meeting will be held at 10:00 am today between the National Workers Union (NWU), which represents the drivers, and the marketing companies to seek a resolution.
Last night, the Jamaica Gasoline Retailers Association (JGRA) said it was hoping for a quick resolution to the impasse as most service stations would be low on petrol, given that they were coming off a long holiday weekend when no gasoline was delivered.
“They started the strike from this morning so no deliveries at all were made today,” president of the JGRA Errol Edwards told the Observer last night.
