Kingston airport lifts restriction on in-bond liquor
PASSENGERS travelling through the Norman Manley International Airport in Kingston can now take in-bond liquor as well as small amounts of liquids on board in their carry-on luggage, following the easing of some restrictions internationally.
Paul Hall, senior vice-president of operations at the Airports Authority of Jamaica (AAJ), said passengers can now take liquor purchased in the departure lounge directly to the plane. Before the easing of the restriction, all in-bond liquor was taken by security personnel to the plane where it was kept by airline crew until the passenger disembarked.
“The main restriction which has been lifted is the ability to take on to the plane liquor purchased in the departure lounge, because formerly it had to be delivered to the plane by the liquor store, but now you can take it with you to the cabin,” said Hall.
“In that regard the restriction has been lifted, but you still cannot take other liquid onto the plane except for sample size perfumes and hand lotions,” he added.
He said that although some restrictions had been eased internationally, the Airports Authority of Jamaica was not authorised to impose or lift restrictions because this was done only through Jamaica’s Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).
“It is them who decide to impose or lift restriction depending on what is happening internationally,” he said.
