Accused cop killer facing another murder trial
Bail application is expected to be made on behalf of accused cop killer and reputed former Olympic Gardens strongman, Ian ‘Oddie’ Francis in the Home Circuit Court on November 3.
Attorney Vincent A Wellesley postponed making the bail application Friday after informing Justice Marva McIntosh that Francis was facing another gun-related murder matter from a year ago, for which the accused is to appear in the Half-Way Tree Resident Magistrate Court on October 20.
Francis is charged with the May 2005 shooting death of Constable Desmond Douglas, 23, of the Hunts Bay Police Station, who along with 39 other officers went to arrest him and his cronies, in connection with a spate of killings and shooting incidents in and around the Olympic Gardens area.
Francis allegedly shot Douglas in the neck after Douglas and two other officers approached him and two other men at 16 Pelican Parade, Kingston 11. Francis was arrested a few hours later, after allegedly being found under a bed at the said address.
Wellesley argued that his client was not at the scene of the crime.
