The police said the men opened fire at them, and in returning the fire one man was hit and was taken to hospital. A Browning 9mm semi-automatic pistol, the police said, was taken from him.
The second firearm, a Taurus .44 Magnum revolver, was found minutes after the shooting when the security forces searched a premises nearby. A man who was in the yard was taken into custody after four rounds of .44 ammunition, the type used in a magnum revolver were allegedly found in his possession.
Another man is suspected to have been shot as the police say they saw a trail of blood at nearby Nelson Street.
According to the police, tension has been brewing between gangs based at Craig Town and Benbow Street since the killing of a top Benbow Street-based gangster in Papine, St Andrew earlier this year.
In the last two days, police in the Kingston West Division say they have seized four illegal weapons, bringing the number of illegal guns seized since the beginning of the year to 32 in that division.
