ISCF cop among four murdered last night
AN Island Special Constabulary Force constable was among four people shot dead last night in Portmore, St Catherine, and in the capital, Kingston.
The constable, Conroy Reid, 21, was cut down by a gunman in what appeared to be a hit, at about 6:30 while doing business in the West Cumberland Plaza, located near Municipal Boulevard in Portmore. Sources said one of the bullets hit him in the mouth.
Detective Sergeant Jubert Llewellyn of the Constabulary Communication Network, the police’s information arm, said the gunman shot the policeman several times and escaped in a waiting white hatchback Toyota Corolla motor car.
Sergeant Llewellyn said potential witnesses were still being questioned by St Catherine South homicide detectives last night, but the police said no motive had yet been established for the killing.
Police at Harmon Barracks, where the special constable was assigned, last night openly expressed shock, disbelief and grief at the news of their colleague’s death.
The other killings reported by the police last night were those of a schoolboy in downtown Kingston, who was shot dead for a cell phone, while two men were shot dead on Mandela Terrace, off Waltham Park Road in Kingston 11. Another man was injured in that shooting, the police said.
