Car accident, lightning storm knock out power in Westmoreland
THE Jamaica Public Service says the power outages in the parish of Westmoreland over the weekend were caused by a severe lightning storm on Friday and a motor vehicle accident on Saturday.
“On Friday afternoon, a lightning strike on JPS’ Paradise substation resulted in the loss of power to most of the parish. Power was restored within a few hours, but the electricity supply was again disrupted on Saturday evening, when a motor vehicle accident on the Farm main road damaged a utility pole and dislodged power lines,” the light and power company said in a statement yesterday.
The company said that despite the repairs carried out on the weekend, its technical teams were carrying out more extensive repair work to ensure that the system was back to normal as soon as possible.
“JPS apologises to customers, and asks for your patience as we work to ensure the delivery of reliable service to you,” said the light and power company.
