Inmates charged with prisoner’s death
WESTERN BUREAU – The Montego Bay police yesterday charged three inmates with the murder of 27 year-old Mark Frazier, who was reportedly found dead in the Montego Bay Freeport Police lock-up last Monday.
Charged with murder are:
. Danvall Brown, a 23 year-old labourer from Deans Lane, Montego Bay;
. O’niel Grant, 21, a higgler from Glendevon; and
. Chanroy Sterling, a higgler from Joan Avenue in Glendevon.
They are booked to appear in the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate’s Court tomorrow to answer to the charge.
Frazier was found dead in a cell he was sharing with the three, at about 12:05 am last Monday – less than four hours after he was arrested on a warrant for unlawful wounding and placed in the lock-up.
He was reportedly discovered on the floor of the cell during a routine police check, with blood coming from his mouth and nose.
His death sparked a short demonstration in the Flankers community of St James, as residents claimed that he was beaten by the police before he was placed in the cell.
However, investigators denied the claim, saying that Frasier was beaten by inmates while behind bars.
