Going Coconuts
The ‘Buy Jamaican’ theme is resonating in the ears of many, but none more so than George Attalla and Ameen Shoucair.
If you frequent the Barbican Road area you might have already noticed a cosy yellow shop aptly called “Mr Coconut”. If not, look out for the sign: it’s number 81/2, located right across from Texaco.
Mr Coconut which opened on August 10, offers more than fresh coconut water. There’s pressed coconut oil (that’s the one that we all ought to be using), from Green Castle Estate in Portland as well as coconut rock cakes, gizzadas, macaroons, coconut oatmeal, coconut puffs, drops, grater cake, coconut bread pudding and potato pudding.
“It’s all,” according to Attalla, “100% Jamaican. So we did not have to worry about foreign exchange etc to start up the business.”
The more on Mr Coconut is the soon-to-be scooped coconut ice-cream, shaved ice and coconut water by the gallon with a special discount of course.
