Two more gunned down in Spanish Town
BUSINESSMAN and night club owner, Winston “Zatto” Henry was shot dead in front of his businessplace on Old Harbour Road in Spanish Town, yesterday afternoon.
Earlier in the day, Courtney Jackson, alias Junior, was shot dead at the intersection of Old Market Street and Cumberland Road, also in Spanish Town.
“It was little after 12 noon when we heard about 20 gunshots, only to find out that Zatto was killed in a drive- by while standing in front of this jerk shop,” said a resident, who declined to give his name.
Another residents claimed that the armed men were dressed like police.
The Constabulary Communication Network( CCN), the police’s information arm, said Henry was standing in front of his business establishment – Palace Night Club – when men in a silver Honda motor car fired several shots at him, killing him on spot.
The CCN said no motive has been established for the murder of the 55 year-old Henry, who lived in Vilmore Gardens, a community just outside of Spanish Town.
Last night, attorney Arthur Kitchin, who once represented Henry in a building case against the St Catherine Parish Council, expressed condolences to the deceased’s family. “His death comes as a great shock and surprise,” said Kitchin.
“I haven’t acted for him in recent times, but I knew him very well, since I represented him in 1989, when the parish council sued him for breaching the law by continuing construction without permission. But I found a loophole which proved that he was one mile outside of the parish council ambits and won him J$1.2 million in damage, since the complex’s construction was at a standstill for two to three years.”
Meanwhile, the police said Jackson, who resided at Waterloo Lane in Spanish Town, was attacked by two armed men while he was riding his bicycle. He was shot and was pronounced dead at the Spanish Town Hospital.
Most of the 100 murders in St Catherine occurred in Spanish Town.
