$5.6 million robbery
ARMED robbers yesterday made off with cash and cheques amounting to over $5.6 million they stole from an armoured security vehicle along Old Harbour Road in St Catherine.
The robbers also made off with a Beretta shotgun, loaded with six cartridges, that they took from one of the security guards.
According to the police, the incident happened while the security guards collected money from the National Gas Station at the intersection of Old Harbour Road and Featherbed Lane, near Spanish Town.
The incident, the police said, happened about 1:10 pm.
“Two security guards were in the process of collecting money from the gas station when they were pounced upon by four robbers,” Corporal Natasha Green of the CCN told the Observer last night.
She said the robbers, who were travelling in a white Toyota Hiace minibus, disarmed one of the security guards before taking several bags of cash and cheques. They later opened fire on the security guards, grazing one in the process before making off in the minibus.
