New Frome Technical High School completed
FROME, Westmoreland – The new Frome Technical High School, the first of 17 schools to be built under the Ministry of Education’s North-Western Jamaica Schools Project, is now complete.
The structure, which was built on 6.1 hectares of land donated to the education ministry by the Sugar Company of Jamaica, opened its doors immediately after the recent Easter holidays.
It was designed by Patrick Stanigar in conjunction with the education ministry’s planning unit, and was built by West Indies Home Contractors (WIHCON) Infrastructure Limited.
It is to accommodate approximately 1,400 students and boasts a range of facilities that include:
. a piggery and a broiler house for chicken farming;
. a garage for the study of auto mechanics;
. state of the art food and nutrition labs; in addition to
. the standard classrooms that include a sixth form block.
Waste from the piggery will be treated in a new anaerobic biodigestor treatment facility that was designed by the Scientific Research Council of Jamaica.
Meanwhile, the contractors have expressed pleasure at the completed structure.
“WIHCON is extremely proud of this new school design,” said Roberto Clivio, WIHCON managing director.
“This is the culmination of long hours of work by WIHCON, our architects and consultants and the ministry of education to ensure that schools will accommodate the new curriculum that the ministry of education, is promoting,” he added.
