J’can woman jailed for smuggling ganja into Barbados
BRIDGETOWN, Barbados (AP) – A magistrate yesterday sentenced a Jamaican woman to two-and-a-half years in prison for smuggling marijuana on a flight into this Caribbean island.
Lorna Venice Greene, from Jamaica’s capital of Kingston, pleaded guilty to bringing 2.5 pounds (1.125 klilograms) of marijuana to Barbados by swallowing it in 50 packets before boarding a March 6 flight from Jamaica.
Police detained Greene, 28, upon her arrival at Barbados’ international airport, the same day they detained another Jamaican man who later admitted to smuggling ingested marijuana into Barbados.
Leroy Leopold Kerr pleaded guilty Wednesday to importing two pounds (0.9 kilograms) of the drug and was sentenced also to two and a half years.
