Three arrested for cop’s deathTrio includes teenage girl and her brother
A teenage girl and her 25 year-old brother are among three persons arrested yesterday in connection with the death of police inspector, Ansel Dwyer, who was stabbed 79 times.
Those arrested are:
. Janice Burgess, 17, from Waterhouse;
. her brother, Carlos “Granny” McKie, 25, from D’Aguilar Road; and
. 20 year-old Shanika Smith, also called “Shani”, from Franklyn Town.
Smith and Burgess, who the police say are mechanics, have both been charged with murder, robbery with aggravation and illegal possession of a firearm. McKie is charged with conspiracy to robbery, accessory to murder after the fact, receiving stolen goods and illegal possession of a firearm.
Dwyer was stabbed to death and his service pistol stolen from his Washington Gardens home on November 7. A neighbour who responded to his cries for help was chased away by a gun-toting woman. Dwyer’s car was later found partially burnt in the May Pen area of Clarendon.
Cops say they later recovered his gun at a business place in Kingston where McKie worked as a chef.
A source at the Duhaney Park police station, where lawmen are investigating their colleague’s murder, told the Observer that Dwyer was friendly with one of the women and had taken up her offer to take part in a threesome.
“He picked up his girl and then went for the other one. When he took them home and stripped down to his underwear, they caressed his chest before stabbing him dead,” a police investigator reported yesterday.
Burgess, McKie and Smith were arrested after police narrowed down the list of suspects and began questioning them intensely. According to cops, they have all confessed to the crime and have given lawmen written statements. They will face the court next Monday.
Inspector Ansel Dwyer was the 10th policeman to be murdered. He was buried at Scots Pass in Clarendon on November 22.
So far 12 cops have killed been this year.
