$2 m repair for Martha Brae bridge
MARTHA BRAE, Trelawny — The Martha Brae bridge in Trelawny is being repaired by the National Works Agency at a cost of $2.2 million, and the project is scheduled for completion by the end of the year.
“Work is to be completed, all things being equal, toward the end of December,” the NWA’s director of communications, Vando Palmer, told the Observer.
According to Palmer, work began a few weeks ago, and is now about 30 per cent complete.
Work on the 100-foot bridge, he said, includes sandblasting to expose those areas of rust to facilitate:
* the replacement of nuts, and bolts where required; and
* the strengthening of the deck of the bridge.
The repair work is being undertaken by the Kingston-based firm, Nakash Construction Limited.
