Man shot dead in Arnett Gardens
HOMICIDE investigators were last night probing yesterday’s shooting death of Errol Reid, a resident of Wilton Gardens, who was shot and killed in Arnett Gardens, South St Andrew.
The dead man’s body was found at premises at 345 Nyrere Drive, in an area called “Angola” in the Arnett Gardens community. He was shot at least three times in his right side.
The police reported that his attacker shot him during a confrontation at about 5:00 pm in a narrow pathway and he ran before falling dead inside the premises, collapsing face-down on a verandah. His body was clad in a pair of cut-off jeans, a T-shirt and a pair of slippers.
The Denham Town police, who are investigating the killing, said they had no motive for the shooting.
Residents in the area said Reid used to live in the area but recently removed to the neighbouring community of Rema.
One woman, visibly upset over the killing in her area, told the Observer that Reid was killed for no reason at all. He was not going on with anything bad in the community as he lived in Rema, the woman said. “That’s why war can’t done,” the resident said in a hushed tone, apparently afraid of reprisals against her for speaking out.
Another resident reported that Reid was killed because of an outstanding grudge between gang members. Reid, the resident said, was friendly with some men who were accused of carrying out the killing of a pregnant woman in the area a few years ago.
Reid was the father of two children, aged four and six years.
His death pushed the murder toll this year to 802.
