November 7 court date for Mexicans charged in $293 m drug bust
THE four Mexicans who are facing drug charges in connection with the $293 million drug bust in Montego Bay last month are to reappear before the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate’s Court on November 7.
Charged with conspiracy, possession of, dealing in, trafficking cocaine are:
* Jose Arturo Jasso, 59;
* Jose Alberto Tella, 34;
* Hugo Valquez Hernandez, 40; and
* Arturo Navarette Romaro, 46.
Meanwhile, the men will remain behind bars, at least until the November 7 court date. They were remanded in custody following their appearance before the RM court earlier this week.
The four were arrested after the Air Commander Jet in which they travelled landed at the Sangster International Airport in the resort city for refuelling and was reportedly found to contain 294 kilograms of cocaine.
The jet — piloted by the accused Jasso and co-piloted by Tella, with the other two men on board — landed on airport grounds at about 10:50 am. The men, the police report, had travelled from Venezuela and were en route to Honduras at the time of the bust.
The men did not get the chance to reach their destination as the narcotics police, acting on intelligence, conducted a search of the aircraft and allegedly discovered the 294 packages of cocaine, each weighing one kilogram.
The drugs and the aircraft were later seized and the four men, all of whom are from Mexico City in Mexico, were arrested.
