One dead, four injured in crash
Fifty-six year old contractor, George Montaque of Fearon Road, Portsmouth in St Catherine, was killed and four other persons injured in a car crash on the Spanish Town Bypass yesterday morning.
Injured are O’Neil Francis; 40 year-old Jacqueline Davis; her daughter Camoy Bell, 23; and Daniel Hylton, 33. They are all from St Catherine.
Reports from the CCN’s St Catherine North liaison officer are that at about 4:00 am, a Nissan Sunny motor car, driven by O’Neil Francis, was travelling along the Spanish Town Bypass with the other four persons aboard. On reaching the vicinity of the Old Harbour round-a-bout, he reportedly lost control of the vehicle, which crashed into an embankment.
Montaque and the other occupants sustained injuries and were taken to the Spanish Town Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The others were admitted in serious condition. The Spanish Town police are investigating.
Illegal betters for court today
Eight persons who were arrested for breaches of the Betting, Gaming and Lotteries Act at Lyndhurst Road, Kingston 5 on Saturday evening are to appear in the Corporate Area Criminal Court today.
Charged with possession of Drop Pan tickets and conspiracy to defraud is Patrick Chang, 56, of Lyndhurst Road, Kingston 5. Meanwhile, charged with unlawful gaming, possession of Drop Pan tickets and illegal bookmaking are: Lisa Turner, 23, of Kidd Lane, Kingston 13; Natasha Graham, 21, of Nelson Road, Kingston 13; John Zaidie, 48, of Hope Boulevard, Kingston 6; Dilando and Annie Nerhoo of Marl Road, Kingston 11; Omar Nerhoo, 33, of Molynes Road, Kingston 19; and Junior Lyn of Glen Drive, Kingston 8.
Reports from CCN’s metro officer are that about 7:25 pm, members of the Betting, Gaming and Lotteries Law Enforcement team carried out an operation at Lyndhurst Road. During the operation Chang and his seven employees were held and charged.
Suspected suicide
A man who was wanted by the Cottage police in Manchester died in hospital yesterday morning after reportedly ingesting the weedicide, Gramoxone.
Dead is Leslie Coley, 45, a farmer of Norway district in Manchester.
Reports from the CCN’s liaison officer for Manchester are that Coley was wanted for wounding with intent in connection with a July 31 incident. Residents reportedly heard him threaten to commit suicide before it was revealed that he had allegedly ingested the poisonous chemical.
Coley was reportedly at a house in Pike district in the parish, Saturday, when he complained of feeling abdominal pains. He was taken to the Percy Junior Hospital where it was discovered that he had ingested the weedicide. He was admitted and died shortly after 7:00 yesterday morning.
The Christiana police are investigating.
