Open day for St Thomas farmers
BELFAST, St Thomas — Farmers, agro-processing companies and government agencies in this parish are expected to participate tomorrow in the Rural Agricultural Development Authority’s (RADA) fifth annual Open Day.
The event will be staged at RADA’s parish office in Belfast and Minister of State in the Ministry of Agriculture, Errol Ennis, is scheduled to deliver the opening address at 1:00 pm.
Parish Agricultural Manager, Caswell Glover, told JIS News that the ceremony would also include presentations of awards and certificates to the champion school farm, the winner of the backyard garden competition, and persons who have contributed to, and supported RADA over the years.
He noted that there would be displays by various cottage industries, small livestock producers, farm stores and the RADA social services home economics department. There will also be educational displays by agencies including the National Land Agency, the Jamaica 4-H Clubs, the National Council on Drug Abuse and the Ornamental Fish Nursery.
And Glover said plans are in high gear for a mango festival scheduled to take place on Saturday, July 5 at the parish’s Heartease community centre. He said there would be a wide range of displays and attractions that showcase the various uses of mango, as well as value added products made from other fruits and vegetables.
Member of Parliament for Western St Thomas, James Robertson, is expected to deliver the main address at that event.
The show is being organised by the RADA parish office.
