Paul Harker appointed Commissioner to Nigeria
PAUL Harker, a career diplomat, has been appointed Jamaica’s High Commissioner-designate to Nigeria.
He is expected to take up his duties on August 1.
Harker is currently the director of the bilateral relations department in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade.
He will succeed Carl Marshall, who was recently appointed High Commissioner-designate to Canada, in succession to Ambassador Raymond Wolfe.
Ambassador Wolfe assumed duties in the Foreign Ministry in February 2003 as under-secretary with responsibility for multilateral affairs.
Since joining the foreign ministry in 1977, Harker has served in a number of positions overseas. He served as deputy permanent representative of Jamaica to the United Nations, New York; minister counsellor for consular affairs at the Jamaica High Commission in London and first secretary in the Jamaican High Commission, Port of Spain.
In addition, Harker has also worked at the foreign ministry as director of the international economic affairs department and the then Africa, Asia, and Pacific Department. He has also been assistant director, protocol and consular division and assistant director of the former political division.
Born in Manchester, Harker, who holds a BSc (Hons) degree in international relations from the University of the West Indies, is married with three children.
