St Joseph’s Hospital on fund-raising drive
WITH only a third of the $15-million needed to implement a 27-point programme to resuscitate St Joseph’s hospital in hand, administrators are relying on a number of innovative measures to raise the additional $10-million required to carry out the one-year project.
According to Fabian Brown, the hospital’s executive director, the money will be raised “from our international partners, local fund-raising events, general sponsorship and 12 income-generating projects”.
Mindful of the competitive nature of the private hospital sector, he opted to keep the 12 projects close to his chest.
The 87-year-old medical facility has steadily lost patients over the years, as a result of changing geographical patterns and competition from other hospitals. But now, Brown and his team are on a crusade to revive it.
In addition to their elaborate $15 million upgrading plan and a strong marketing push, they have also beefed up security at the Deanery Road hospital.
“The hospital, since March 1, has an improved security system with electroguard security services doing frequent patrols,” he said. “We have the electronic security system on board. I can’t stress enough that I need the Jamaican populace to recognise that we have a superior quality of service and they need to take advantage of it.”
