Businessman in custody for alleged Customs breaches
A South Korean businessman, who was held Tuesday after the disappearance of a trailer loaded with household appliances, was still being interrogated yesterday, a police spokesman told the Observer.
The man, who operates in Kingston and St Catherine, could be charged for breaches of the Customs Act.
The 45-foot trailer, which was stolen Monday while en route to Container Services Limited at Kingston Wharves for inspection, was Tuesday recovered at a warehouse at the LOJ complex on Norman Road in Kingston, the Customs Department said.
The consignment, which included radios, washing machines, air condition units, refrigerators, televisions, DVD and component sets imported from Miami, was falsely declared to Customs as toilet paper and synthetic hair.
The shipment in question was consigned to an individual of an address in Santa Cruz, St Elizabeth, the Customs Department said.
