Cambridge bridge to be closed tomorrow
CAMBRIDGE, St James — The wooden bridge which connects the communities of Cambridge and Seven Rivers in St James is to be closed tomorrow, to allow the National Works Agency (NWA) to replace the old structure with a Bailey bridge.
The new bridge is being installed as part of a £14-million bridge construction programme between the Jamaican Government and a number of British companies.
According to the NWA’s community relations officer Stephen Shaw, the bridge will be closed for two weeks. The alternative routes will be from Anchovy through Mount Horeb and Chester Castle through Bethel Town to Ducketts.
Shaw added that tenders are now being accepted for the construction of a permanent bridge for the community.
Only last week, residents of Cambridge and its environs voiced their concern about the deteriorating bridge, after a vehicle became stuck on it.
