$1m bounty on cop killer
THE police high command yesterday posted a $1-million bounty on the killer of a police corporal in May Pen, Clarendon Saturday night and described his murder as a “dastardly” and “heinous crime”.
The cop, 43 year-old Paul McDonald, was gunned down inside a bar on Williams Avenue by a man who entered at about 8:15 pm, the Constabulary Communication Network (CCN) said.
Corporal McDonald, who worked at the May Pen Police Station, was shot in his chest and back. He was the first cop killed this year and his death pushed the year-to-date murder toll to more than 135.
Yesterday, Police Commissioner Francis Forbes condemned McDonald’s murder and said he was outraged at the viciousness of hardened criminals who were intent on creating mayhem in the country.
“This dastardly behaviour must not be allowed to go unpunished,” the CCN reported Forbes as saying. He also reminded members of the constabulary to be careful about where they socialise.
Forbes extended the constabulary’s condolences to McDonald’s relatives, friends and colleagues and urged members of the police force “not to lose heart, but to continue in the fight to make Jamaica a safe place for all”.
The May Pen police, who are investigating the murder, said they found three .380 spent shells at the scene. They were last night still trying to determine why McDonald was killed.
