Of Crystal and China
We open the breakfront this week and implore our readers to make use of those wonderful crystal glasses so often stored forever and ever………..
Glasses not used and made of crystal will shatter if just stored. “Especially,” says Maurine Capleton of MC Decors, “if they’re stored where there’s not much air.” Take them out, wash in warm soapy water, rinse thoroughly and leave to dry by themselves.
Allowing to dry this way prevents lint from sticking to the glasses. Please note that for best results, glasses should be washed separately.
Stored crystal should be washed and dried at least twice a year. China requires the same amount of care. Naturally both should be washed again before and after each use.
Watch out for lipstick marks (ladies reduce lipstick marks by blotting before leaving home). Grease marks can be reduced by blotting in between sips.
Water is delicious when drunk out of a crystal glass. And what better way to enjoy tea than from an elegant China cup and saucer?
By the way do not turn over wonderful Crystal glasses at the table. If you wish to abstain from drinking wines, ask the waiter to remove the wine glass. Or use your index finger to signal to the waiter that you wish to decline.
