New system expected to quicken land titles process
Jamaicans can look forward to faster processing of their Land Titles following the official signing of a US$1.3 million contract to develop a turn-key enterprise-wide, automated Land Titling and Parcel Management System for the National Land Agency (NLA).
The contract, which was announced by the Government last year, was awarded to Fujitsu Transaction Solutions (Jamaica) Limited.
According to Fujitsu’s regional marketing manager, Sandra Jones, the system will be deployed within the Land Titles and Surveys Mapping Division of the NLA and will significantly improve the security and integrity of both the Land Title Application, Modification and Certification processes.
After implementation, customers can expect a reduction from 30 to eight days to receive their new land titles and the checking of surgery plans for titling will be reduced to five days.
“In addition to the quicker processing of land titles, customers now have the option of accessing some of the NLA’s services online and will now be able to process their transactions at any NLA regional office,” Jones said.
Under the contract, all regional offices and branches of the NLA will enjoy instant access to critical GIS-based databases that will facilitate an efficient and transparent land titling, surveying and mapping service, including integration with the current computerised land valuation operations.
The Fujitsu implementation team includes Spatial Innovision, International Land Systems (USA) and NovalLIS Technologies (Canada). Implementation of the new system has begun and the contract ends June 30th, 2003. Fujitsu will provide Project Co-ordination, IT Infrastructure, Hardware equipment, Training and Services.
