Cop on carnal abuse, rape charges denied bail
WESTERN BUREAU – A Montego Bay cop who is facing separate charges of rape and carnal abuse of two teenage girls, was Tuesday denied bail because of the age of the complainants and the seriousness of the allegations against him.
As a result, Constable Richard McFarlane will remain behind bars, at least until March 19 when the case is expected to be heard.
On June 30 last year, McFarlane, a member of the constabulary for 15 years, allegedly saw the first complainant, a 13-year-old, walking inside Hampton in St James and approached her.
The constable, himself a resident of that community and someone who is known to the teenager, reportedly pushed her into his car and drove her to his home where he is alleged to have sexually assaulted her.
The teenager made a report to the police and, following a ruling by a Montego Bay clerk of court last November, McFarlane was arrested and charged with carnal abuse.
McFarlane is alleged to have committed the second and more serious offence on December 3.
The court was told that at approximately 5:00 pm on that day, another 13-year-old girl was on her way home when she ran into McFarlane. He allegedly asked her for a kiss and she refused.
He reportedly offered her a lift home and she accepted. He is accused of taking her to his home where he pushed her into a bedroom and allegedly assaulted her sexually. After the alleged incident, McFarlane reportedly drove the young girl home and left.
On arrival at the house, the teen told her mother about the alleged incident and McFarlane was later charged with rape.
