Ellington heads Entertainment Advisory Board
CABINET has approved the appointment of a new Entertainment Advisory Board for the Ministry of Industry and Tourism with responsibility for Entertainment and named broadcaster/journalist Fae Ellington as chairman, effective February 3, for two years.
Ellington is one of five new persons on the 15-member board. The others are Jamaica Association of Dramatic Artists president, Basil Dawkins; production specialist, Ricardo Chin; music producer, Mikey Bennett; and entertainment producer, Patrick Roberts of the Shocking Vibes entity.
Downtown board named
PRIME Minister P J Patterson has announced the members of the interim board of the non-profit company that will spearhead the redevelopment of the downtown Kingston business district.
The board, to be chaired by Dr Vin Lawrence, comprises Maurice Facey, deputy chairman; Michael Ammar Jr; Rev Dr Edmund Davis; Errol Green; Aubyn Hill; Francis Kennedy; Pauline Knight; Patrick Stanigar; Robert Stephens, Jevene Bent and Dunstan Whittingham.
Jamaica a vice-chair of Non-Aligned Movement confab
JAMAICA has been endorsed as vice-chair of the 13th Conference of Heads of Government of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) being attended by Prime Minister P J Patterson in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from yesterday to next Tuesday.
The position is one of four vice-chairs allocated to the Caribbean and Latin American region, with Cuba, Guyana and Ecuador being the other three.
Patterson is expected to support the application of Timor L’este and St Vincent and the Grenadines for membership in the NAM.
Two teens on gun rap
TWO teenagers — one 15 and the other 16 years old — have been arrested and charged with breaches of the Firearms Act after a robbery attempt in the Jacks Hill community of St Andrew Wednesday night.
Both juveniles, who the police say are from Jacks Hill, are now facing charges of Illegal possession of firearm.
The Constabulary Communication Network reported that at about 8:30 pm Wednesday, a man was walking in the Jacks Hill area when two armed with a knife and a gun, respectively, attempted to rob him. During a struggle, he disarmed them and they ran leaving behind a homemade handgun.
The police were summoned and the teenagers were later picked up in the area. They were subsequently arrested and charged.
