Bus driver on two counts of manslaughter
A St Andrew man has been charged in connection with Wednesday’s fatal car crash that left two dead and six injured in St James.
The man, David Kerr, 36, a salesman of Pleasant Valley in the parish, is to face the court next Wednesday for causing death by dangerous driving in connection with the killings of 54 year-old Constantine Crooks and 42 year-old taxi operator, Donald Vassell.
Vassell was from the small community of Content while Crooks was from Orange District in St James.
According to the police, at about 1:30 Wednesday afternoon, Kerr was driving a Toyota Hiace bus along the Porto Bello main road in Montego Bay, when he swerved to avoid a pothole and collided with a Toyota Corolla with Vassell behind the wheel.
Vassell and Crooks, who was travelling in the passenger seat of the car, were pronounced dead at hospital.
After preliminary investigations, the St James police indicated that Kerr would likely be charged with death by dangerous driving. Charges were laid yesterday after he was released from hospital where he had been under observation since the accident occurred.
Meanwhile, a St Catherine truck driver, who was yesterday charged with manslaughter in connection with another traffic accident, will go before the courts on Tuesday.
Thirty-three year-old Radcliffe Cameron, of Bushy Park, has been charged for the death of 31 year-old Cordel Gunning of Little London in Westmoreland.
Cameron, said the police, was driving his Leyland truck in a westerly direction along the Negril main road, when he lost control of the vehicle and collided with a Toyota Corolla that was being driven by Gunning.
Gunning was taken to the Savanna-la-Mar Hospital and later transferred to the Kingston Public Hospital where he died yesterday morning.
