Hugh Crosskill Snr is dead
HUGH Crosskill Snr, respected cricket analyst who played the game at club level in Jamaica and England in the 1930s, 1940s and 1950s, died yesterday after a lengthy bout with cancer at age 88.
He was the father of journalist/broadcasters, Hugh Crosskill Jr (who died in tragic circumstances last year) and TVJ’s Simon Crosskill.
A medium fast bowler and batsman, Crosskill Snr, played for Lucas and Railway Cricket clubs in the years before World War ll. He travelled to England during the war as a munitions worker and subsequently settled there, playing for many years in that country’s club leagues.
A contemporary, George Prescod, last night remembered Crosskill as “a genuine all-rounder”.
Crosskill served for years as an expert cricket commentator on radio during the 1970s and 1980s after returning to Jamaica. He also contributed regularly to newspapers focusing mainly on legal matters.
