Anchovy man arrested
WESTERN BUREAU – The St James police yesterday seized a stolen motorcar along with several motor vehicle parts and an imitation firearm at a yard on the Anchovy main road in the parish. They have also arrested and charged one man in connection with the find.
The man – Everad Ellis, 28 – is an auto-body repairman and owner of the property. He was charged with receiving stolen property and unlawful possession of property.
Another four men found on the premises were taken into custody for questioning.
Constabulary Communication Network officer for St James, Constable Peter Salkey told the Observer that at about 1:00 pm, a team of 20 cops from the parish and the Flying Squad went to the premises armed with a warrant. On arrival, he said, the team, led by Deputy Superintendent Derrick Knight and Assistant Superintendent Dave Hyman, saw Ellis and the other men and proceeded to carry out their search.
A beige Toyota Corolla motorcar with the registration number 8058BZ was checked and it was discovered that the number belonged to another vehicle – a yellow Mazda motorcar.
The chassis number on the Toyota – AE110-5054745 – was also checked and it was revealed that the car belonged to a Rachel Clarke of Eltham View in Spanish Town. The car was reported stolen on October 25, 2001.
In addition to the stolen car, Constable Salkey said the police also seized several motor vehicle parts, as well as:
. the imitation firearm, weighted with putty, that was found inside the roof of the two-storey house on the premises;
. car papers and stereo equipment, also found inside the roof of the house; and
. a chillum (marijuana) pipe that was found inside one of the rooms.
The police later called in a wrecker to remove the stolen car and the motor vehicle parts to the Montego Bay Police Station.
