35 ex-cops join association in Florida
THIRTY-FIVE ex-police officers were recently inducted into the Jamaica Ex-Police Association of Florida, Inc, a community group of retired officers or those who resigned and are now resident in the United States.
This association is comprised of ex-members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF), the Island Special Constabulary Force (ISCF) and the District Constables Association. The induction ceremony was held on January 26 at the Sunrise Baptist Church, Fort Lauderdale.
Since its inception some 10 years ago, the association has restructured its objective to better serve the community overseas, as well as in Jamaica.
President Dervin Johnson said that over the years the organisation had been assisting families of police officers killed in the line of duty.
Funds have also been sourced through fund-raisers to provide scholarships to college freshmen.
Johnson pointed out that the association also acted as a bridge of support with the local police community and the Jamaican communities in Florida.
Other chapters are based in New York and Connecticut.
